Overview

The Ramsar Management System (RMS) is an online tool to assist the agencies that manage Ramsar sites meet their obligations under the Ramsar convention.

Victoria has 12 wetlands of international significance designated under the Ramsar Convention.

Through the RMS, site managers can:

• track implementation of site management plans
• document the ecological character status of sites against limits of acceptable change
• identify priority critical components, processes and services for monitoring and
• document assumptions related to the effectiveness of management activities
• document assumptions between links in the program logic

The RMS also provides a platform for DEECA to have statewide oversight of the implementation of Ramsar Management Plans and the status of ecological character and to understand the knowledge gaps in the program logic and management effectiveness.

Guidance

The following acronyms and colours are used to help identify what content you are working with:

Ecological character

• A critical component/process/service of the site
• A limit of acceptable change for a particular CPS
• A threat identified for a site
• An assessment of a LAC

Management effectiveness

• A critical component/process/service of the site
• A resource condition target for a particular CPS
• An assessment of an RCT

Management plan implementation

• A management strategy for a site
• An activity undertaken for a site
• A progress report for a strategy or activity
